deb's new countertop
   :: BACK ::

Almost the end of the kitchen project! We're still going to get LP gas installed so we can get a dual fuel range. 5 gas burners on top with 2 electric convection ovens below. Unfortunately, the new oven with the gas tank/piping installed is going to cost almost $3,500, so, for now we'll continue using the existing electric stove/oven!

The granite counter arrived this morning at 8:30!

Getting everything perfectly level.

I highly recommend Designs by DELANO COUNTERTOPS. Everyone I've met from this company has been extremely friendly, helpful and professional.

New under-counter sink.

Counter 05

The installers mixed epoxy to match the color of the granite. The epoxy was used at the joint between the two pieces of the counter, to seal the backspash/counter joints, and to seal the sink.

They even sealed the underside where the granite meets the wood of the cabinets.

No matter how much liquid gets spilled, it will never get behind or under the counter to damage walls or cabinets. They really did a fantastic job!

Trimming the backsplash pieces to fit exactly.

Counter 11

Almost too shiney...you can see the reflection of the bottom of the awning outside.

Now I have to paint the awning!

Counter 12

The stove has got to go!

Counter 14

This granite is called Ubatuba Black...

No, that isn't a Bill Cosby character, it is the name of the town in Brazil where the granite is mined.

Counter 15

Another shot of the high gloss finish.

Counter 16

You can really see the variation in color here.

The basic color is black with green (to match the tile floor), but there are little flecks of gold, silver and even some purple.

The more you look, the more different colors you can find.

Counter 17

Color looks different depending on the angle and the lighting.

Deb originally wanted a simple beveled edge, but I think she was just trying to save a little money.

I knew she really wanted something a little prettier, so I upgraded to the "Ogee" style edge to surprise her. It was worth the extra... it really looks nice.
